Omar Fraile (Caja Rural-Seguros RGA) managed to be in the day’s escape and further consolidated the King of the Mountain jersey. Fraile obtained another 37 points, which now make 55 in total. Mikel Landa, the stage winner, is now 2nd in that classification with 25 points. José Gonçalves, the Portuguese Caja Rural-Seguros RGA rider, is having a great Vuelta and collaborated with Omar Fraile in order to earn points. David Arroyo was the first team member to cross the finish-line and currently sits in 23rd place in the general classification.

Fraile described the stage as “very, very tough”. “I felt good right from the beginning, but by the end, I just didn’t have the energy. I managed to earn more points for the King of the Mountain classification, and now have a nice safety net. Second in place is Mikel Landa, who I trust will stay there and concentrate on helping Fabio Aru”.
