SANKT WENDEL – German Saarland Region. With bloody hot circumstances Blaza Klemencic showed great effort at the European Championships XCO for women in Sankt Wendel by winning the SILVER MEDAL.

In the last round her fellow National Team mate Tanja Zakelj was too strong. But, Klemenčič was delighted with her silver medal. ,,I am very happy because now I have a complete set of medals. And it shows that I am back on the highest level.‘’, spoke Klemenčič right after the ceremony.

The rider from the Feenstra-Kenda bike team became European marathon champion in 2004 in Walbrzych (Poland) and 2005 she finished third at the marathon. Her second place at the cross country in Sankt Wendel brings Klemenčič her missing medal. Klemenčič: “This race course suited me well, it was rather easy than technical. But, hard because of the long climbs. And the weather was perfect. Because the extreme heat made the race tough. But, I am in good shape that is why I could cope with it. So I´m really happy.’’

Lisa Mitterbauer, riding for Austria in the women U23 race, crashed hard and had to abandon the race ahead of time. In the Cross Country races on thursday Lisa was able to get a 10th rank.
The third Team rider Ruben Scheire (Belgium) finished 46th at the elite men's race. ,,This was not my day. Bad legs and the extreme heat of 34° made me feel as if I paddled backwards’’, said Scheire.

Team manager Maarten Kemperman was thrilled with the silver medal. ,,We were very proud that three of our riders participated at this European Championship but winning a medal makes it even more special’’, told Kemperman.
